1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets - Like Indiana Jones, but with a more ludicrous MacGuffin than even the Holy Grail; $35.6 million.

2. Alvin and the Chipmunks - "How about that chipmunk one, where the chipmunks are all really creepy and obnoxious? Let's see that one." Enough people said this that it accumulated $29.1 million over the weekend.

3. I Am Legend - Made $27.3 million despite recent rumors that Will Smith is Hitler.

4. Charlie Wilson's War - If I understand correctly, Charlie Wilson is to war as Merv Griffin is to Crosswords, though I don't know what that actually means; $12 million.

5. Juno - The most talked-about teen pregnancy film since the bizarre one you had to watch in 8th grade sex ed. made $10.6 million.

How in the HELL does Alvin and the f$%^in chipmunks win out against I AM LEGEND?! I can somewhat believe the sequel to National Treasure chipmunks? C'MON!!

If you know people who've seen that chipmunk movie, it's your duty to shame them.

I saw National Treasure and the question I have is how did finding the "City of Gold" exonerate his great, great Grandfather?

On second thought, if they've seen the chipmunks, they have no shame anyway.

I was walking to the screen that was showing charlie wilson when a showing of chipmunks got out and I was flooded by kids and the few adults who were with them. Most of the kids were making a lot of noise about how great the movie was. This actually could explain the numbers, 29.1 million is roughly 3,233,333 tickets which comes out to about 64,666 people per state. when you factor it in that both parents tend to go to a movie for their kids, and each family has on average 2 kids, you have 16,166 families per state seeing the movie. That's still way more than makes sense when you put it in those terms.

People will watch just about anything, apparently.

I'm not a fan of Cage and a friend dragged me to see it and I thought it wasn't very good.

@ Bobby- I have no clue I asked the same question along with if that guy wanted to find the treasure why didnt he just ask cage for help instead of framing the great grandfather?
