Jan 14 2008Golden Globes Winners ('Atonement') and Losers ('Society')

golden-globes-winners.jpg

Despite completely forgetting about the event taking place last night, replacing that information with anything even slightly relevant, I managed to catch most of the Golden Globes last night on NBC. Due to the writer's strike, I knew the ceremony was cancelled, to be replaced by a more discreet reading of the winners, but I had no idea exactly how pathetic it would be. Two of earth's biggest tools--their names I can't recall, but I think they're from Access Hollywood--gave some of the most obnoxious commentary I've ever heard. How many times were these turds going to say "boutique movie"? Did they just make that up? Where is Mario Lopez, or guy from Sugar Ray? If you're going to get a complete idiot from an entertainment gossip show, they're surely better options. There is something seriously wrong when the question "Couldn't they at least get Ryan Seacrest to do this?" crosses your mind, and last night may be the first and last time in recorded history that it happens.

And how about those winners? Can you believe a sweeping period romance would be awarded in some huge way?

Still, all said and done, the fact that there were no self-indulgant musical numbers or "remembrances", and that it ran under five hours, made this the best awards show in recent memory.

Winners under the cut.

atonement sux

there will be blood should've won

Why oh why oh why the FUCK was Tim Burton nominated for Best Director and NOT PT Anderson? Even more proof the Golden Globes are a complete joke.

Apparently as many people watched the Golden Globes as the movies that won.

JLH is FAT!

JLH is FAT!

JLH is FAT!

JLH is FAT!

JLH is FAT!

All of these award shows are just plain old boring, and, hopefully, when the WGA strike is over, all the award shows will go away just like the other dinosaurs (Miss. American and Miss. Universe pageants).

All of these pat-on the-back award shows are just for "The Suits" wives to have a place to wear their designer dresses to. Don't they get it --- No One Outside of Hollywood Cares about Award Shows!!!

I have never NOT wanted to see a movie so badly in my life. Keira Knightly was interesting for about 5 minutes then her skeletal body just started to gross me out.

This movie had some bad editing.

Why in the HELL would David Duchovny win over Steve C, Alec B and Ricky G for his awful stupid show????
And how in the hell does Michael C Hall get passed over every year for his fantastic role as "Dexter".......people really need to enlighten themselves with some show besides the Britney spears true hollywood nightmare!
Good god!

I only saw one movie last year and I'm pretty pissed it didn't get nominated for any awards. I saw 'Big Boob Beach Bangers" 152 times and it is an awesome movie.

A fuckin' Sweeping Romantic Epic beats out the Coen brothers? Goddamn it, I hate the Golden Globes. What is it with fucktards who vote for awards and movies like Atonement? If Titanic had been nominated the same year as the Godfather, the out-of-touch 90-year-old foreign press would have unanimously elected Titanic the best movie of the year. And then crapped their pants.

I only heard of half of the winners and didn't see most of the nominations. Some of that is because most of the movies were released at 11:59pm EST on Dec 31, 2007.

You people are idiots.

ATONEMENT IS BEAUTIFUL.... A CLASSIC!!!!!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE GO AND SEE THIS MOVIE

Kim K's movie didn't even get a runner-up? These awards are fixed.

Lame. i didn't watch this whatever-it-was press conference, but as a serious film fan, Atonement was totally overrated. No Country was clearly the best picture of the year. At least DDL won best actor, he blew everyone out of the water.

ATONEMENT IS THE WORST MOVIE
and so is sweeny todd
i sleep though a large part of both movies because they were so dull and terrible. i cant believe they won. the hollywood foreign press must be blind. they chose the worst people in all the categories. especially for best acterss in a comedy or musical. niki blonsky, amy adams and ellen page were all amazing in their roles and they were in the only good movies of the year and some girl from france won.

Hmmph...Didn't see Atonement, but am so glad I missed it.

I like Daniel Day Lewis, but he's a critic/establishment favorite, so they almost always vote for him when he "allows" himself to do a movie. Was hoping Vigo or Denzel would get the globe, but didn't bet any money on it.

As for Depp, we were glad to see him win, just because he's always nominated, but it usually stops there.

And the best movie PERIOD - No Country for Old Men. Hands down. We featured it on our website just because it was so well done. (http://www.onyxcranium.com/reeltalk/aintaboutus/aintabtus.html)

Oh, well. That's "Hollywood".

Wow. The Golden Globs are still EXACTLY as lame as WITH a real audience and a real show!

Freakin' AWESOME!

It is always a true pleasure to see pure grade B shit movies only 8% of the known world gives a shit about win awards I didn't care existed.

Sweet!

Yes, O' God Yes, musicals and broadway next right? O' Friggin' Joy!

Best bet for sane America is Dr. Ron Paul. Don't let those who control the media and banking keep you from knowing the truth. Vote Ron Paul for President.

haha

You know why Atonement won best picture? Because they let people with some degree of taste, who actually know something about cinema decide the awards. Not some stupid inbreds like yourselves. Yes, 'No Country for Old Men' is an excellent movie, though I'm willing to bet most of you entirely missed all of the subtext of that film. Atonement is a deserving winner though, the film is beautiful. Most of you have conceded that you never saw the damn movie so how the fuck are you so sure that No Country for Old Men should have won? ... Christ if they let you guys choose the awards we probably would have seen Alien vs Predator 2 nominanted for an award.

#26, you are not fooling anyone, Eurotrash. But if you actually are American, learn how to spell and to not sound like a dipshit. You are not representing very well. Fucking retard.

gO FUCK Yourself asshole! Alien vs Predaotr 2 4 life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U cum guzzlin hippy bastard!!!!

Fuck you atonement is the best there will be blood is wak yes i said it wak

Atonement was a great flick; it looked and felt a lot like Pride and Prejudice... come to think of it, both movies have the same director, leading lady, both are based on books and both take place in England
