Dec 17 2007'The Dark Knight' Trailer is All We Hoped For
As much as I hate lavishing affection on anything that won't later reject me, I have to say, the finally-released trailed to The Dark Knight looks pretty impressive. Heath Ledger appears to be giving us the psychotic Batman antagonist we all prayed for as Arnold Schwartzenegger assaulted us with one-line puns about freezing. Even as Nolan took a lot of liberties with the look, this feels more like the Joker than anything I've seen on screen. It's kind of chilling, really. If I didn't know it was Ledger, I don't know if I could've figured it out, which should hopefully dissuade crafty editors from making an inevitable Brokeback Mountain parody trailer.
My only confusion comes from the line that Joker's clothes are all custom. Since when are home-made clothes sinister? I remember a kid in elementary school having home-made clothes, and it seems like the sentiment was more along the lines of extremely lame. Though I guess I could see how that kid might be a psychotic clown at this point, after all the merciless playground beatings.

Maybe his clothes are custom because GAP sweaters didn't have enough evil in them. Some, sure, but not enough. I mean I have a GAP scarf that chokes people, but does it also choke their family? Nah. Not at these prices.

that trailer made me pee my pants. in public. and i didn't even care who pointed and laughed and called me Mr Pee Pants.

Gordon probably mentioned the clothes being home-made because the cops can't track them. If the Joker shopped at JC Penny then the police may have a chance at tracking down some info on him. But no such luck.
I watch too much CSI.

^ Haha.
And I have to say, holy crap, Ledger is all but unrecognizable. He's f'ing creepy. Can't wait for this movie.

O.K., for months now, everyone has bashed Ledger when they found out he was playing the Joker. I think he's gonna kick Nicholson's Jokers ass!! I think people are starting to realize that Nolan made the right choice for the Joker.

agree with #6
Ledger was unrecognizable on the trailer. He looks f*ing creepy and insane...and THAT is what the joker is supposed to be...he is going to kick ass...
now i only hope the movie has a good script to come with it and this movie might just be f*ing awesome ^___^

His clothes are self-made because they're part of his line of NEW JOKER PRODUCTS!!!

Maybe the clothes are "custom made" because he made his own clothes. I remember watching Se7en and thinking how scary/crazy Kevin Spacey's character was who made his own books. Making your own clothing? Now that's just a whole other level of depravity...I can only imagine him at the fabric store buying the purple cloth with the obese cat lovers and old ladies who will later go to bingo that night walking the isles with him. If I was subjected to that kind of domestic torture I'd probably paint my face like a nutter and rob banks too.

Maybe they're custom made so he can hold a bunch of knives/other weapons/a fuckload of cutlery.

Let's get off the topic of clothes for the love of God, trailer is amazing, Nolan is amazing, Ledger is amazing, and this movie will break records

Call me crazy but I don't see it as a major departure at all from Nickolson's Joker. He's basically younger, a bit more depraved and less "jokey". Think of it like this - as he gets older, the Joker becomes more insane and loses that "scary all the time" edge and falls more into twisted humor.
I think it's a really good melding of the truly sick Joker from "The Killing Joke" and the silly versions from the old TV show and original comics. Makes total sense to me and I agree, Ledger's performance is spot on. Watch small queues like when he fires the rocket launcher - his facial expressions and exaggerated movements are not far from what Jack Nickolson was doing for the role. He's just doing it with more brooding and less pomp, which fits this movie perfectly. I am really looking forward to this movie and it promises to be even better than "Batman Begins".

It's like 'Akira' meets 'The Crow'
And I agree with poster above, very JN-ish performance
