I never understood Horton.
Near as I can figure, in the middle of writing this book, after creating his 147th imaginary creature, when conceiving Horton, Seuss, wanting to wrap this thing up and ship it off, takes a swig of whiskey and says "Fuck it. Enough with the bambuzzers, whipstilts and cragnuggins....let's just make him an elephant."
