Nov 1 2007Meryl Streep Wins Preemptive Oscar as Julia Child
Should someone win an Oscar for doing a goofy impression of Julia Child that probably won't be as good as the one Dan Aykroyd did 30 years ago? Probably not. But knowing Meryl Streep, she probably will now that she's been cast as the famous chef in the comedy Julia & Julia.
Other actors will earn nominations for heart-wrenching, dramatic monologues that bring audiences to tears, but Meryl will walk away with the win because she wore a wig and delivered jokes in a frumpy, high-pitched voice, and maybe held up a fish.
Then again, I guess she was only nominated for acting like a bitchy caricature in The Devil Wears Prada.

Dan Ackroyd's "Save the liver!" will be a tough, if not impossible, act to follow for Ms. Streep.

The real Julie is an attractive curvy woman, but it's ridiculous that the willowy Amy Adams has been cast to play her. I like Adams, she was great in Junebug, but she's not beliveable as a curvy woman who loves voluptuous food, and who would continue her project no matter what, even after cooking and eating a year's worth of butter infused French food, and gaining weight.

Meryl Streep plays a fantastic Julia Child. She deserves to win.
Desolée.

Meryl Streep was wonderful as Julia and so was Amy Adams as Julie. I saw it at the movies and watched twice on DVD. My husband even liked it and he never likes the movies I like. Go Meryl!!

Meryl Streep was absolutely amazing in Julie and Julia, and she brought ME to tears. She wasn't trying to give an IMPRESSION of Julia Child, she was ACTING as her and she brought her to life beautifully and even if she doesn't win, she deserves it no matter what. It doesn't matter what KIND of person an actress is portraying, whether a serious or more lighthearted character, what MATTERS is how WELL the actor/actress DID THEIR JOB. Just because you don't personally like Julia Child and/or Meryl Streep doesn't change a thing because thank goodness the Academy doesn't take the biases of random people with blogs into consideration.
