Nov 19 2007'Cloverfield' Trailer, Still No Monster

cloverfield-trailer.jpg

While this trailer for Cloverfield--now apparently the official name--makes it seem like an exciting new take on the Blair Witch-style, home video recorded horror, those looking to finally get a look at the monster attacking New York are in for more disappointment. Careful edits and well-placed buildings obscure the beasts like giant, aggravating pasties on massive, roaring breasts.

With this much build-up, can this thing possibly live up to our expectations? Are your intense hopes for the monster similar to mine? (Note: I'm thinking the head of Oprah and a whole mess of tentacles.)

I'm hoping for a giant fat fire breathing manatee with tentacles.

I think it's going to be a monstrous napalm spewing Koala bear with Rosie O'Donnell's jowls...

The 90's Godzilla movie promos come to mind.

How is this different than godzilla? The only way this would be scary or cool is if it was a giant menstruating Rosie O'donnel.

Like all things JJ - when you get down to it there is nothing here.
All sizzle no steak. I
t's easier to pull off with Lost - where you can hide the fact that you have no idea where the story you are telling is going when you can string people along for years. In a two hour movie people will yawn, and say "I see why this is a January release."

Ha! loli, that sounds like something Lovecraft would think of. Which means I approve.

The movie is based on a video game called Rampage.

If you pause the trailer at 1:29 it appears like there is a quick snapshot of the monster destroying a building. Looks kind of like Alien.

has anyone noticed the expanding woman? at 1:12 there's two guys in space suits or something holding a woman between them behind a curtain, but then the woman's frame expanding from the stomach like she's the blob or something. what if this is another NYC virus movie? and the monster is just the most infected. that would be super lame. but then again, this thing looks awesome no matter what.

jonathan:

That is what happens when people would transform into the big monster from Rampage.

Lisa...

I plan on getting Cthulhu tattooed onto my forearm, props for the HP Lovecraft reference.

On that note, I'll add that I have a really gross feeling that the trailer will be scarier than the movie....which is how it always seems to happen. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and watch it anyway.

i can“t wait to see the movie, by the way checking the movie frame by frame i discovered something in it.
its a man face in the background, i know it doesnt mean nothing i just find it interesting. (or it does mean something ???)

This looks like a pro version of BW...more polished. The poster's first glance reminded me of the NY Twin towers...bit strange. Wierd but maybe that is suppose to get that kind of reaction to pull people in. http://www.spymac.com/details/?2309564

julio c. alvarez that is amazing that you could see that checking every single frame. YOU ARE A MOVIE BUFF for real!

Maybe this is a documentary style movie about the many civvies witnessing the destruction of NYC by Gojira.. Even the rampaging little tykes of the big green lizard are in the show! Those three poor nobodies down in the subway line is a'going to be dinner for the little ones! Maybe it isn't big green, because we saw scales.... It's Megaron!!!! Foe of Gojira!! Now nesting in central park and waiting for Gojira to show up, but because it's a dumb radioactive creature it doesn't realize that it's opponent is still destroying Japan.

julio...too much acid, man, lol...I admit I saw it too, but that lends NO help...too much acid. Good catch though.

i think this kind of movies have secrets and hidden things, it is something that i saw, and want it to share.
