Oct 22 2007'Step Up 2' Trailer Explores Further Step Ups
Want to waste a few minutes of time? Come on, you're already here, right? So watch the above trailer to Step Up 2, then decide what element is most absurd. Your choices are:
1. That Step Up was so popular, or at least left so many unanswered questions about the nature of stepping up, that a sequel was not only imagined but, in fact, made.
2. That the original Step Up wasn't itself already a sequel to You Got Served.
3. That competitive dancing in general is popular enough to warrant filming outside of music videos that end in knife fights.
4. That the above image mocking the disabled is considered a dance.
5. The line, "You realize, with those competitions, you are risking everything," which implies that the losers of street dance competitions are apparently murdered.
6. The rest of the lines. Seriously, I didn't think this eye-rolling blend of flirting and "humor" could be accomplished outside of a Star Wars film.
7. Write in your own!
Trailer under the cut.

7. The originality of a protagonist who has troubles living by society's rules, and finds an unorthodox outlet for savant-like, thereby winning the approval of authority figures and maybe... just maybe, finds love in the process. Oh, but by her own rules, naturally.

8.The obvious conflict between Sophie and Andie will come to a boiling point halfway through the film, but will be resolved when both realize they have one thing in common, the love of dance.

9) It doesn't have Michael Flatley.

I guess it's just all a matter of perspective. You see something laughable in that trailer, I see some absolutely phenomenal dancing and choreography. Just like you see your writing as witty, and I see it as the same old played out internet snark constructed with a lesser nose for the clever than 90% of the blogosphere.

lol y'alls comments crack me up.
WHYYYYY do they insist on keep making dance movies?????
8. Bobeyo - October 23, 2007 1:43 PM
I guess RaleighBoy's comment is a matter of perspective. Whereas he sees himself as superior, I see him as a pretentious loser and roll my eyes, and since he used the word "blogosphere," I laugh and proceed to forget his comment.

Aside from the 4th reason, no one's said anything about the dancing per se, just the fact that the movie itself is formulaic. And if you look at the trailer and aren't put in awe by the pretty dance moves, you realize, this movie's been made before.
10. Joe Mamma - October 23, 2007 3:12 PM
This is no different than all the animated films that come out. Yes, the graphics are amazing and something to see but the story is just another repeat and incredibly boring. The dancing may be awesome but not any better than the other 4 movies that have come out recently. I am also including "Breakin' it 2: Electric boogaloo" in this list, so 5.
11. Wow - October 24, 2007 12:25 PM
Worst acting ever.

You're right, there's a real irony in the idea that anybody who communes in a place with no better label than "the blogosphere" could be too pretentious about anything, which was my original point.
I love character-driven, uniquely crafted movies, which is why I'll see No Country For Old Men soon enough. But I also can appreciate a fun movie that showcasing dancing abilities that few people in the world have, which is why I'm looking forward to Step Up 2.

12) That they think any self-respecting audience will believe that the kind of scene at 'The Streets' involves mostly white people.
Where my break-dancing minorities at?

I'm flat out impressed with the dancing in this trailer. I was begrudgingly forced to watch the first Step Up, and laughed about watching "You Got Served" (which ranks up there for guilty pleasures) and they were both awesome movies. People are going to dog this movie, but its going to surprise even the saltiest haters.

worst movie ever...and that douchebag robert hoffman can suck my balls.
yeah robert, keep making your ninja videos and keep shocking yourself with a dog collar.

Ahahaha- good greif-- what is the beef with Hoffman? Did that guy wrong you? All he ever did was look adorable and dance his face off. He's just trying to entertain and make a living though killer dance moves. I'm always shocked at hom much I like these types of flicks. Respect the dance.

THE FACT THAT PEOPLE THAT CANT DANCE WILL JUDGE A MOVIE THAT HAS DANCING IN IT IT IS NOT SHAKESPEARE BUT STILL I THINK IF YOU CAN FIND A POSITIVE OUTLET THAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THEN GO FOR IT FUCK THE HATERS THAT ARE TO BUSY DOWNING A MOVIE THAT THEY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN IF THEY TRIED
