Oct 10 2007Pine May be Captain Kirk, Cop, 'It'

Move over, Brad Pitt! Outta the way, McConaughey! Matt Damon who? Oh, that is his last name? According to Hollywood Reporter, we may have a new "It Boy" in town, and his name is Chris Pine.

And what is their basis for this bold claim? That he has more than one (two) roles being offered to him, one of which he clearly doesn't have the look for, the other of which he'll clearly be overshadowed:

[Pine] is in discussions to star as Captain Kirk in Paramount's "Star Trek" and in negotiations to star opposite George Clooney in Joe Carnahan's adaptation of the James Ellroy crime novel "White Jazz."

Wait, that's it? There must be some previous catalog of work that we're overlooking that makes him a clear choice as the new "It Boy," right Hollywood Reporter?

Pine's biggest gig to date has been the male lead in the 2006 Lindsay Lohan movie "Just My Luck," which flopped.

Oh, in that case he's definitely the "It Boy," and should be given whatever duties that title holds.

So what do you of this douche as Kirk? Have I given away my stance?

Kirk? Cops? Both? Pine in demand [Hollywood Reporter]

I can see him as Kirk. However, Abrams is completely wrong for Trek. Paramount has given up on the franchise and clearly doesn't care at all what this guy does to it so long as this film makes money. Their strategy with ST has been all wrong for years and years - their attempts to make new Trek more 'mainstream' have only alienated the core.
I hate the guy intensely, but Star Trek desperately needs a George Lucas. What happened to the Rick Bermans, the Michael and Denise Okudas, the Michael Pillers, etc. that used to defend the integrity of the franchise? I KNOW there are still people with clout out there that care - LeVar Burton, Roxanne Dawson, Tim Russ, et al. Please, buy the thing from Paramount before they drive it into the ground. Think of Gene!!!

I believe that "IT Boy" is the title granted to a young male actor who is still free of HIV, Hepatitis and other STD's AND has yet to sleep with every major producer and/or director , THUS he is still desired by said poofs and requires role offers as the price of seduction.

Give it a few weeks, and he'll be lying in his own vomit and semen on some tranny's bathroom floor. At that point, a new "IT Boy" will be selected by the elite Hollywood poofs in their never ending search for fresh meat.

Integrity? In Star Trek? It's been about the cash for nearly forty years. It's why they've been recycling the same crap forever and constantly hitting those rewind buttons.

And I hope that any thoughts of Gene are ruthlessly squashed. If he hadn't died when he did, the franchise would have died with STNG before it's second season. The man was producing nirvanish garbage by that point.

If you want to do it right, put Ron Moore in charge. His ST was the only one that made sense, had true drama and consistency, and kept me guessing. Of course, his show was the sideline show that no one paid attention to at Paramount. Heck, they only created the show to zap Babylon 5.

Alright, LenS, let's at the very least protect the integrity of the canon, then. Forty years? And I thought i was cynical...
I'm going to disagree about Gene, but we're in complete agreement about Ron Moore - DS9 was the best and The House of Quark is one of my favourites.
The sorry state of Trek today owes to one man: Brannon Braga. I am very concerned that JJ Abrams will make a similarly negative contribution that the franchise cannot tolerate (or survive).

I am gonna be the immature fan girl who's comments are totally ignored but she posts them anyway so she can support the guy of who everyone is speaking. OMG!!!! I LOVEEE CHRIS! HE'S SOOOO HOTTT! EEEEEEEEEE! Well there ya go.

Stop bitching!
