Oct 15 2007Hollywood's Young and Annoying Test for JLA
Hollywood's finest selection of hot, young, annoying actors (plus rapper Common!), 35 or 40, in fact, began testing this weekend for a role in the Justice League of American movie. Who was on hand (besides rapper Common)? Why, let me tell you:
On the roll call are Adam Brody (Fox's "The O.C."), Joseph Cross ("Running With Scissors"), D.J. Cotrona ("Windfall"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Grindhouse"), Michael Angarano ("Sky High"), Teresa Palmer ("Wolf Creek"), Max Thieriot ("Jumper") and rapper Common. The cast of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" is well-represented as well, with Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter also among those testing for parts.
It seems that since director George Miller couldn't afford Christian Bale and Brandon Routh reprising their roles, he's gone with the next best thing: actors from movies and TV shows that I either hate or haven't heard of (with a few exceptions, like rapper Common). Clearly, if Adam Brody can pull off both the roles of rich hipster nerd and Zach Braff-wannabe, he's an obvious choice for a superhero, as is whoever DJ Cotrona is, and, of course, rapper Common.

I miss the snarky captions. The caption on this photo could say something like, "Outside the itchiest beard awards." Or something. I never said I was funny.

That's crap. Not casing Routh and Bale completely ruins the continuity of a universe. When Superman does shit in JLA, it's also going on in his weekly books. Because they create the element of reality that something is actually happening. Oh, and Common would make a TERRIBLE Green Lantern (who is the only character I can assume they're considering him for). Jon Stewart is a former Marine. Get me Djimon Hounsou or something. I hope this whole project implodes.

WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKK? Why not just make it the JLA Bratz? Jesus Christ, do people over 30 even exist in Hollywood's eyes anymore?
The only thing worse would be Adam Sandler as Superman, Rob Schneider as the Flash, Dane Cook as Batman, Lindsay Lohan as Wonder Woman, Cedric the Entertainer as Martian Manhunter and of course, rapper Common as Green Lantern.

Re: Common -- Does this mean we'll have to look at the Green Lantern wearing one of those silly-ass hats?

They can't afford Brandon Routh? Please. In that case, they probably can only afford sock puppets.
What great roles is he doing elsewhere? Besides letting directors sodomize him? Though maybe that's the problem -- he bent over for Miller who'd rather have the Wonder Woman tryouts bend over.
The only real cost would be Christian Bale. But he'd be a fraction of the budget and he'd make a great anchor for the rest of the cast of unknowns. Sigh. What is so hard about making DC Comics films anymore? It's like the disease that Marvel used to have was passed to DC. These films shouldn't require twenty years, hundreds of scripts and dozens of producers to make. Just hire the DC Animated people to write your stories, hire a competent director (preferably one who isn't a poof using the casting couch to get his action) to film those stories (no getting "creative"), and sign up actors long term who want to be rich.

all in the same place over one weekend? that would be a perfect time to test out the U.S. nuclear capabilities.

If they're going to half- ass it with this possible cast, why not animate the thing. They couldn't find any grown-ups for this movie?
