Tobey Maguire's Maguire Entertainment and Warner Bros. have picked up the right to anime classic Robotech and hope to bring it to screens with Maguire in the lead. After three big-budget Spider-Man films in the bag, the young actor is ready to return to those smaller, intimate, giant robot mech suits in outer space roles that gave him his start.
The move was spurred on by the recent success of the $311 million-grossing giant robot flick Transformers, as well as the long-held understanding that giant robots are really awesome.

Great news about bringing Robotech to the big screen but I'm not liking Tobey in the lead. And I hope they don't pussy out and they actually have some real violence as there's a lot of death in Robotech. Too bad they didn't pick up Macross.

I don’t think Maguire could be the best Choice, almost if he will be Rick Hunter in the new movie could be a disaster; I expect a movie like XMEN in the meaning that the personages are equal or betters than the original ones.
The fist generation of Robotech is too heavy, so the movie should be at least of 3 hrs of duration.
Anyways if the movie is directed by George Lucas or Pitter
Jackson, will be a success guaranteed

I am so excited about this! I used to watch robetech religiously as a kid....but Tobey as Rick???? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????? he is waaaaay too geeky and OLD to be Rick.....wtf??? hollywood better not fuck this one up...I am not too worried about speed racer because it is a Wachowski movie, but THIS....Tobey producing a Robotech movie????
WHY? must hollywood ruin my childhood memories?

Tobey = Rick Hunter....please, he's too old and has a gay look that I don't like for this role....I mean ...the movie is a great idea, but you don't have to mess it up...
I wish Tobey realizes that he's not the one to play Rick.....

I don't know what you crybabies are barking about. I'm just glad to see a brilliant show finally get its respect. You hear about thundcats movies and gi joe movies and you wonder how they can possibly make that cool as live action... but this one kicks ass if they do it right

I think Guillermo Del Toro could be a nice choice, because for the Robotech moive we need fresh minds with experience, you must remember that in "Laberinto del Fauno" he used a perfect simbiosis between fantasy and reality, and in Robotech story must exsist emphasis in a propably future with a fair combination of science fiction, also the director should love the tale for make a good work.
