Sep 12 2007John Stewart Hosting Oscars

john-stewart-oscars.jpg The New York Times is reporting this morning that Daily Show lead John Stewart will be hosting the next Academy Awards ceremony. The article notes that the move is somewhat unexpected, as Stewart's 2006 turn as host drew fewer viewers (38.9 million) than in other recent years, particularly when compared to 1998, when Billy Crystal had 55 million tuned in, since most Academy Awards viewers would prefer a host as old and out-of-touch as the Academy itself. Since Stewart no longer has Brokeback Mountain to turn to for gay cowboy jokes, expect references to how funny newer movies would be if they also featured gay cowboys.

Just do away with all of the extra crap no one cares about, like the middle third, and people will watch.

I agree with KC - there's too much extra crap. I do love Jon Stewart though (no H in Jon btw) and in 2006, he was the only reason I actually watched.

What really makes the ratings is having movies that people actually watched get nominated. Last year's group of films had pathetic box office numbers. If it wasn't for the Brokeback jokes, I suspect that the ratings would have been even lower (while few saw the film, everyone had made jokes about it).

jon rocks he as the only reason i watched the AA's that year

noooooo he sucks ass. Ellen was the funniest in years. I was actually laughing at her segments the whole time.

To many of these people try to be the next groundbreaking comedy hero and they fail miserably because it isnt natural and they are forcing it.

he's a wussy crybaby. "9/11. wah wah wah. i hearts America. wah wah wah"

i dont watch the Daily Show anymore because of him. BRING BACK KILBORN!
