Aug 23 2007Toy-based Wizard of Oz on Its Way!

Todd McFarlane and History of Violence writer Josh Olson have revealed plans for a new take on The Wizard of Oz based on McFarlane's horror versions of the toys (above). This will allow the toymaker to make new toys based on the movie based on the toys.

The two went on to say Dorothy would actually be nothing at all like the hyper-sexualized bondage toy but be more of a bad-ass like Ripley in Alien, and the whole thing will have a "2007 wow factor" that will try to get the Lord of the Rings audience. If that means armies of thousands of Muchkins versus hordes of flying monkeys, I might just forgive the fact that McFarlane is still releasing Spawn toys for some reason. Honestly, who is buying these?

why would you ruin a great movie like the wizard of oz w/ sex toys? & a movie based on sex toys? sounds like someone is out of ideas for movies... although if it has a LOTR feel, & they take out the sex-aspect, it might be a pretty decent movie...

Whats wrong with sex Becca? You sound like a fucking drag.

I'm disturbed, confused, disgusted and turned on all at the same time, it's like watching a fergie video.

By all means Hollywood, continue to rape my childhood. I'm sure we can look forward to the movie based on those hi-lar-ee-ous Calvin-peeing-on-things stickers idiots put on their huge 4X4s next.

They're going to collossally fuck it up.

I mean...majorly, majorly fuck it up.

"The two went on to say Dorothy would actually be nothing at all like the hyper-sexualized bondage..."
Why not?!

Gandalf is the WIzard of Oz. Toto is Gollum. Dorothy is Arwen. Tinman is Merry and Pippen. Lion is Boromir. Scarecrow is Aragon.

I would watch a bondage Wizard of Oz over, and over, and over.

For Serious.

Guess who has realised that shit CGI makes a film cheaper. This along with Beowulf is going to be like watching a shit cut scene in a shit 486 computer game.

I own a Shaun of the Dead figurine set *hangs head in shame* yeah.

I wonder if this would pave the way for American McGee's Alive movie(which has been trying to get off the ground for FOREVER)

this looks hot!! and yes Raven, i've been waiting for American McGees Alice movie for ages too.

bean... you clearly read mcsweeneys.net also, because you just stole your comment from that site. a plot for a movie based on those stickers has already been suggested. good try.

That doll is so fucking hot.

Why? Oh, I know why...... money.

I don't understand what's so bad about a revisionist idea on a classic tale - if you do your research half the movies released every year are either based on a classic book, graphic novel, or folk tale... or worse, based off of an earlier movie.

cry more, if it truly ruins your childhood - personally I try not to live in the past.

there not making a movie you fucking maroons, THEY'RE JUST TOYS! goddamn you guys are sooooo fucking dumb and dumber!

@18: reading comprehension pls

Todd MacFarlane WISHES this movie was based on his toys. Too bad the idea was originally generated by American McGee who created the platform game American McGee's Alice - which would be a kick ass film.

Don't give Todd all the credit - he NEVER deserves it.

Just for the record, I don't read mcsweeneys.net (although I do enjoy their pirate store in San Francisco).

I'm a professional cartoonist and writer and actually thought that idea up all on my own. It wasn't awesomely clever but it wasn't plagiarized either.

Why didn't Todd ever do a figurine of the Witch? :( Aside from that sexy Dorothy, that's the only one I was curious about.!

I actually really like McFarlane toys but I don't really care for the old Oz movie. So I'm not too sure about a new movie based on those two things.. Maybe I'll wait for a trailer??
