Aug 31 2007The Mist Trailer

Thanks to Joe for sending along the trailer to The Mist, the film about mysterious creatures hidden within a looming vapor that isn't The Fog. With Frank Darabont, director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, trying his hand at yet another Stephen King property, this one definitely can't be mist. Feel free to use that line in your personal blogs or conversations.

This looks like it is going to be good. The Mist is one of my favorite short stories by Stephen King. From what I see in the trailer, they cast well, and are staying mostly true to the storyline. Plus, by the same guy who did Shawshank as well as The Green Mile? I am in!!!

"Mist" is German for CRAP

I am tired of movies that portray Christians as wackos who inevitably resort to child sacrifice when faced by mysterious monsters, because everybody knows it's the gays that bring down the wrath of God.

This trailer gives away too much information. It's like I have seen the movie in 2 minutes. A shame.

Looks like it's more of a remake of "Signs" than anything.

Does anybody else think this is Silent Hill' plot? In the original game for the playstation the town is enveloped in a fog in which demons from another world appear. One of which looks exactly like the 'bat' creature un this trailer. The townspeople were all cultist/religious fanatics too. Game came out in 99' but when was the book written?

the trailer totally ripped off "the last man" score from The Fountain. blech.

The story was written in the 70s

1. The Mist was published in his book of short stories "Skeleton Crew" which came out in 1985.
2. If you ever read Stephen King you would KNOW that he always has religious zealots in many of his works.
3. If you are familiar with the story....you would know that that trailer is pretty much just like the book. A man and his son trapped in a supermarket while this weird mist with giant insects attacks.......

"Promise me you won't let the fundys get me..."

"this one cant be mist" wow cheesetastic

Another "Can't Mist" hit. Looks a bit gloomy, though. The cast is really under a cloud. I would do well not fog-et that. And with that lead actress, things are bound to get steamy. Do you think she'll get smoked?

Why does Thomas Jane look so much like Christopher Lambert in this? That shouldn't be recommended.

Seriously, I saw this trailer in front of Halloween this weekend, and I got CHILLS. I've always loved this story, and seeing it FINALLY coming to the big screen thrilled me like crazy. I was ready to get up and leave after seeing this, haha. I was finished! :D

THOMAS JANE GAVE UP ON DOING A SECOND PUNISHER MOVIE FOR THIS?

jesus... here we go again. We have a song co-wrote by Mogwai - excellent band nobody has ever heard of - originally written for a movie called The Fountain - excellent movie that nobody ever went to see ...used for Fog 2 "the mist"

Even so, this does look slightly interesting with the religious overtones pitting good against "evil" - or good AS evil (to the viewer).

I wonder if they will use the song in the film - or just use a cool song in the trailer to entice people into the seats like when the Children of Men trailer used a cool Sigur Ros song that never ended up in the movie (although the allusion to Animals was awesome).

This trailer looked good until I saw the actual creatures. Then it devolved into a bad Sci-Fi channel movie like Mansquito or something. Who the hell is in this movie anyway?

..well, when "christians" issue imprecatory prayers for God to smite others, i.e. Wiley Drake http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/44143894.html
I have no problem with cultists being shown in reality.

No time for scary people not thinking for themselves. Love Stephen King, loved the Mist when I read it as a teenager, and I'll see this movie no matter what the reviews are. But there is no way, even with Darabont directing, that it can evoke the same chills as reading the actual words.

The fog 2 comment along side with the silent hill comment are just idiotic. The story was being written in the mid 70's. Then published for the first time in 1980. It does not rip any movie off. It has actually inspired many other things such as half life, doom and silent hill.Seriously, go die.

Yeah Shane!!!

so glad the christians are portrayed as monsters when scared. all religious kooks act the same under pressure regardless of what religion they practice. i think king and darabont are expressing the disgust most people in this world feel about fundamentalists of any stripe considering what has happened on 9/11 and beyond. america is was not founded on the principle of freedom of religion but instead freedom from religion. that is the message of this film.

I swear I have seen this movie before. I remember everything that is in the trailers... is this a remake or a re-release? i swear i've seen it already.

Laura - I have been wondering the same thing! Before they even showed the "creatures" I knew what they would look like and not just from remembering reading the story. I have seen this movie, I just know it. I have looked all over the internet and can not find anything to prove it... and NO I do not have this confused with "The Fog".

Laura and Jeanette - It is absolutely killing me. I KNOW I have seen it before. Definately. I cant find any information on it either. Which is how I found this post!

I believe this was not a bigscreen movie, but a made for tv movie of The Mist or a made for tv movie of the last and longest story of the 1980 horror anthology, Dark Forces. I remember seeing this before, but a very long time ago. I am still unable to find any reference to this ever being in production before now. From wikepedia, there was this concerning comments made about video games, Silent Hill, etc. :

The Mist also saw an incarnation as a text adventure game for computers, published by Angelsoft and Mindscape Interactive in 1985.

The Mist was a partial inspiration for Valve Software's Half-Life video game series.[1]

The makers of the Silent Hill series of video games used many aspects of King's The Mist story in the original game

See also The Dark Tower Series.

I have seen "The Mist" this past weekend. Destardi you are right it does not provoke the same chills...it provokes more. I was shaking for about 5 minutes after I walked out of the theatre. I have read the story and it is one of my favorites of his. The movie does it more justice than I thought it would. And the ending is different but I feel it is better than the ending of the story. This is a must see for any King fan.
