Aug 20 2007James McAvoy cast as Scotty
The Sunday Mirror reports James McAvoy has been cast as Scotty in JJ Abrams' new Star Trek prequel. The rumor has been circulating for awhile now, but this is the first time it's been confirmed. I don't really know anything about this James McAvoy guy, but I still say they should've gone with my idea: digging up the original Scotty's corpse and moving him around like a puppet. You know, put sunglasses on him Weekend At Bernie's style. Academy Awards here we come!
A semi-new poster for the Star Trek film after the jump.

I've watched all the Trek series over the years(the original series in reruns only). I'm not a die hard trekkie/trekker or anything but I'm interested to see how they play this movie out for sure.

This guy was in the SciFi mini-series Children of Dune. Kind of sad that I watched it, maybe, but he was definitely one of the best people involved. Exciting to see him do something (potentially) respectable!

I heart James McAvoy. Looks like I might have to watch this Star Trek nonsense. Also, he's done tons of respectable stuff! Can't wait for Penelope to finally be released, he's dreamy!

BAH! Bearing in mind the original rumors had Gary Sinise as Bones, I am so very surprised. Not really though. The rest of the movie will easily be cast with photocopy white boys from all the failed TB teen-dramas.

Children of Dune and the Dune miniseries on Sci-Fi a few years ago was the pinnacle of their home grown adaptations. (The adaptation of Phil Farmer's TO YOUR SCATTERED BODIES GO was such a letdown.) He's got chops and is the first thing I've seen to make me think that this is going to be less Lost in Space and more Battlestar Galactica.

Yes, but sadly they cremated him, fired him into space, then the satellite carrying his ashes crashed back to earth in an isolated mountain range. They're just leaving him out there. Scotty's final resting place is random and sad.

Well he is actually scottish. Which probably would help.
Appeared on Brit TV a couple of times before going off to make it big. Good actor. Saw him first on underclass comedy / drama Shameless and he was totally convincing as being english. Then did some stuff for the BBC I saw which was much tudor period piece.

This the man who played the protagonist in The Last King of Scotland counter Forrest Whitaker who won an Oscar for the role. Funny how he wasn't catapulted into fame for it.

I thought that he was absolutly amazing in Last King of Scotland
and he's pretty much done a kick ass job with everything else that he's been in
I dont think Star Trek will be much of a change from that record
