Aug 8 2007Anton Yelchin Joins Star Trek

J.J. Abrams has added one more name to his Star Trek prequel crew with actual Russian Anton Yelchin taking the role of Chekhov, the Enterprise's navigator. You probably saw Yelchin in his recent role as the kidnapped kid in Alpha Dog, the one the blonde girl strangely identifies as "stolen boy" in the trailer. The actor is twelve years younger than the film's Spock, Zachary Quinto, which seems like a larger gap in age than I would have expected, though I know nothing about Star Trek ages and have no reason for thinking that. Still, it's given me hope for a toddler Sulu, which will be adorable when he tries to fly the ship and can't reach the pedals.

Chekhov wasn't even on Star Trek until the second season. He's much younger than Kirk or Spock. I'm a little bit annoyed that they're even including him in the movie. They couldn't have ALL gone to school together. Geez.

Spock wasn't a fresh officer during the first mission he was a continuing bridge officer from when Pike was captain, so hes much older then the Junior officers.
Chekhov isn't even a bridge officer until much much later, he shouldn't really be in this movie except in passing. Sulu on the other hand, was fresh out of the Academy and the Enterprise under Kirk was his first assignment, so he'll be quite young anywhere from 19-24 years old.

I'm just surprised sharpless and NominalGeek didn't make some comment on there not being any gas pedals on the enterprise.

Also would like to point out, the only person on the enterprise Kirk knew before he took command of the Enterprise was McCoy, I believe. Christina call me =p

Vulcans don't age slower, they live longer, and prosper.

Ahaha, Chrychek, I like you.
Nominalgeek, I feel like since the movie is an AU, anything can happen. So there.
