Jul 20 2007The State Finally Coming to DVD

After over ten years of my unrequested, drunken quoting of lines from The State, my friends who didn't have cable as kids will finally know what I'm talking about when the MTV sketch comedy show comes to DVD. What those friends don't realize is that, while it's true they'll at least be clued in on the jokes, it will not deter my drunken ramblings, after which I'll then surely want to show them my favorite clips from the five-disc set, forgetting that I already had earlier in the night.

Unfortunately there's not yet a release date, so I'll still be shouting "I wanna dip my balls in it" with no apparent explanation for some time to come.

I know someone who is really gonna flip out

This is, perhap, he greatest news in the history of mankind. I'm just glad I lived long enough to see it.

AWESOME! That show was so amazing and hillarious. Their segues from scene to scene were brilliant. Plus people from that show went on to launch Reno 911! and Viva Variety. Thomas Lennon, Michael Ian Black, Ken Marino, Kerri Kenney. Sweet.

I hope they aren't going to release the same copies of the episodes that are currently on iTunes, since those have all the music cut out and the parts that were spoken over the music were all re-recorded a year or so ago.

I really hope they renegotiate the rights to the music, so we can get the real, original episodes, but I know they won't.

Krispy Pops!

They're pretty good!

Unfortunately, Serfer, they will not have the original music as they would need to get the rights to ALL that music. I believe it is because, once upon a time, MTV had a deal where they could use any music played on their channel for any of their own shows. That is no longer the case, apparently. Besides, I am sure that would not extend to DVD anyways.

It will definitely hurt on some skits, but the genius of Taco Mailman and Hot Pursuits will still be intact.

The sun goes down... but it keeps gettin' hotter 'n' hotter...

IamsofuckignexcitedIcan'thitthespacebar!!!

Oh hell yeah. I loved the state. From "what, were you born in a barn" to "I'm Doug, I'm outta heeeeeeere", or the prison escape sketch, I used to know them all. One things for sure:

I'M GONNA DIP MY BALLS IN IT!

"What you you say, if I told you that this chip, could hold all the books, in all the librarys in the world? Would you say that I was lying? Are you calling me a liar? You got something to say to me why don't you say it to my face? Come on man! I'm gonna kill you!"...."Get out of here, don't you see what you've done?"

Two words: Froggy Jamboree.

I can't wait to get this!

Now if they'll just drop Austin Stories onto DVD I'll be good to go.

Apostle: What's the matter Jesus, don't you like Lenny?

Jesus: Yeah I like Lenny. I love Lenny. That's my thing, man!

"I don't care what the Pearl Jam does with their cheese. I've got three words for you. Head, heart, and small plastic containers!"

Two hundred and forty dollars, of puddin'. Awww Yeah.

Weirdest. Comment thread. Ever.

(No, I have never seen The State. Have to buy the boxset now, though.)

Awesome! Let's all get milk faced and hum like rabbits!

"Knowledge thrown down from the mountain. Mount Noonan. Exit Barry a wiser man."

My balls are tingling right now.

I guess signing all of those online "Bring The State to DVD!" petitions finally paid off.

Bacon! Bacon! Bacon! We're putting the moves on yooouuu! You're BACOOON!!!

OMG FINALLY!

I WANNA DIP MY penis in the center of each disc

"...there's only two ways out of here: In a body bag or through that big wide open gate over there that leads to the freeway. Let's consider that gate, 'off limits'..."

Oh man, I can't wait! That show was way ahead of it's time.

i will send postcards to my socks. i will make love to a clown. i will break bottles..........with my ass.

I think I'd rather go with Tony to the zoo to see the monkeys do it!

Awesome. I'm planning to "get a monkey and just torture the hell out of it" to celebrate.

Vince, please keep the Entourage hate coming.

Funny, I remember watching Human Giant 24 a couple months ago (which kicked serious ass, by the way) and they had Michael Showalter on and he actually broke the news that they were currently wrapping up production on The State DVD set. Somehow I actually forgot about this until now. Needless to say, I am once again super hyped for this DVD set.

This is good news.
