Jul 31 2007Iron Man ComicCon Footage
Jon Favreau screened a trailer for Iron Man at ComicCon this last weekend, providing a peek at the first real footage of the film. Luckily, as seen above, the power of shoddy bootlegging has brought the clip to those of us who refuse to kowtow to convention exclusivity.
The early parts of the trailer, though fairly entertaining, made me worry that there will be too much exposition and patriotism, but the later parts had me forgiving all of that once the giant iron suit started shooting giant fireballs, particularly at the end when we get to the switch from dingy iron suit to classic red & gold. Not since Short Circuit 2 has a change in metallic luster had me so excited.
Thanks for the tip, MajorKnuckles, and thank your troops as well.

I could not be more pumped! Was worried the effects would look bad - but have no fears now.
Well done Mr. Favreau.

I was a little worried, too. But this actually looks decent. As long as it keeps the humor, but doesn't stray too close to campy, this could work.

i've never been a big fan of the character but the trailer does get me excited for the movie. hopefully with Downey's dry wit it won't get too campy.

It looks pretty damn awesome! The flight with the raptors is sweet.

Totally looking forward to it.
Geekgasm = when the fans went nuts at the glance of the first iron man model.
As with spider-man this year, Iron man will be overexposed by Marvel specials and such, hopefully his current douche bag post-civil war reputation will be long gone or explained.

What do you mean, too much patriotism? That's what comic books are about, especially the golden and silver era ones. It's not a bad thing to be patriotic about the country you live in. It's not jingoism to wave a flag either. Thanks for the video, I had hoped to get a chance to see it!

Joeyshabadoo is right. Iron man is a "tow the line" type of politik, as seen in the Civil War story-line this year in the Marvel Universe. He supported Mutant registration.
Oh god, I spilled my nerd juice.

Luckily this seems to be an Iron Man that's easily accessible to the non-geek crowd, who are blissfully unaware of the horrible mishandling of the character thanks to Quesada and the Civil War. Otherwise we'd have to deal with Shield helicarriers and a female Ultron taking over his armor. God I'm starting to dislike Marvel.
Look at the Spider-Man series, didn't have to worry about Parker unmasking and relying on holographic disguises compliments of the Beast.

Remember when this movie was called Robocop?

Remember when the first appearance of Iron Man predated Robocop by over two decades?
Douchebag.

wow, that was underwhelming to say the least. The best part of that trailer was the Iron Man song.
I do agree with some comments though, they better keep the humor in this movie because there's no way someone could take this character/movie seriously. At least the acting from Downy seemed infinitely better then the atrocious acting in Transformers.

Exposition and patriotism? That's the point. Stark was always meant to start off as a heartless industrialist at best, war profiteer at worst. It's after the injury that he decides to use his technology for good.
I was skeptical at first about Downey, but I have to know admit that it does look like it;s gonna be great. I'd always imagined good, high-speed fight scenes for it.....

uh-duh that's the point of TEASER TRAILERS, to tease you by making u thing the movie's 1 thing but it's really another.
i just hope this just raises the standards for marvel comics becuase there movies are starting get really crappy. all movies are starting to get really crappy. that'll change when i start movies in my company: THE ACE OF SPADES Enterprises. till then just hope that a great movie finally comes around.
