Jul 24 2007Drew Carey to Host Price is Right
Last night on The Late Show, Drew Carey announced he will be the new host of The Price is Right, taking over for Bob Barker. Now, I think they could have found a much better or much worse replacement for the recently retired host, but my main issue is just that they're continuing the show at all. I mean, really, what's the point? It's not like PiR is actually some great, revolutionary game show idea. Watching the hour-long show, like a visit to a dying grandpa, was done out of a sense of duty, nostalgia, and mild amusement with the outdated decor. You can't get rid of grandpa and expect me to keep visiting his house, even if he's been replaced with a younger, slightly funnier grandpa with thick glasses.
Question of the day: Will anyone be willing to run up and kiss Drew Carey?*
*including family members.

That's one of the best analogies I've ever seen. Well played, sir.

i really don't understand where all this negativity is coming from. the price is right is probably the greatest show ever created, and bob barker is one classy gentleman. but for some reason, this site is just bogged down in tpir hate. the only reason i could possibly fathom is that you went to a taping and weren't called to contestant's row, or you were and lost bigtime at plinko or someother game. but still, that's no good excuse to despise the show... unless you're hating just to sound "cool" and "hip."
lame.

I love the Price is Right. Ever since I was 6, I enjoyed watching it. I don't know how to feel about this. Bob Barker is awesome, plain and simple, and I don't think Drew Carey is a good enough replacement. He can be cool(read tolerable) in his own right, I just don't think he can succeed the way Bob did. I see the end of the Price is Right in the near future.

I haven't watched TPIR in years and now having Drew Carey host it has definitely cemented this trend.
I absolutely cannot stand watching this guy. I actually didn't even mind him on his own show but when he started hosting Who's Line...that's when my dislike set in. He would tell this really dry/bad jokes and then laugh his ass off at his own damn jokes. I think the original british host(Clive Anderson) did a much better job hosting that show.
Could have been worse though, they could have gotten Rosie to host it...now THAT would have been a disaster.
RIP The Price is Right.
