Jun 20 2007Mattel Lands Rights to Kung Fu Panda, Other Stereotypes

Ling-Ling taught himself martial arts after hearing Ed Norton once quip, "I wanted to put a bullet in the head of every Panda who wouldn't screw to save its species."
Toy maker Mattel ("They're not dolls mom, they're action figures!") has landed the licensing rights to Kung Fu Panda. The acquisition fits in well with Mattel's new line of Asian stereotype toys that also includes Karate Math Whiz, Panty Sniffing Businessman, and Chopstick the Slow Driver.

Sorry this is awful, my kids think its awful too and they should know they've watched all the previous dreamworks and pixsar movies so often they could act in them, the idea is good but its the execution where it all gone tits up,
When the villan escapes from prison the idea was good but the editing was slack and the music needed to be more forceful and dynamic, at the end a little kung fu to get through the guards would have been nice instead of everyone just lying down and surrendering.
At the end of the day there just wasn't enough of anything, comedic one liners were thin on the ground, the wasn't enough kung fu in the lead up to the final battle (are we really to believe that po learns Kung Fu in an afternoon at a pic nic), To much time is wasted at the start with irrelevent scenes(you can lose that whole dream thing for a start, that just confused my kids and almost had them wanting to leave right here). There was not enough of Po failing at impossible kung fu tasks as the furious five attempted to make him leave, there was not enough mystical comments from Oogway. And to cap it all the final battle just wasn't convincing, there was to much bouncing over roof tops and not enough actual hand to hand combat.
I feel that the emphasis was all wrong, these things are supposed to carry some sort of message, which was I suppose there's no secret recipe to popularity or success all you have is what you've got its how you use it and belief in yourself. However that didn't really come through for me.
What was the thing with po being a panda and his father clearly wasn't was it all just for that bit when you think his father is oing to tell him he's not his real dad but instead tells him the secret of the secret noodle soup?
At the end of the day there was a great movie in there but this wasn't it.
