Jun 1 2007Battlestar Galactica Ending Next Season

A nasally, high-pitched cry was heard around the world today as the executive producers of Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica announced that the fourth season of the acclaimed series will be its last, sending Edward James Olmos back to the streets. A statement explained the creative decision:
This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there: We're going out with a bang.
I, for one, am sad for the loss. Though I haven't watched the show, I've heard it's really riveting, and I've enjoyed ignorantly labeling friends as freakish nerds for watching it. Once it's over, I'll probably rent the whole thing on DVD and proclaim it genius. But until then, guess you'll have to start interacting with real humans, nerds!

heheh nerds...nice.
well I'm a big nerd I guess because I love this show and not because it's science fiction etc etc...it's just a very well written and engaging show. Too bad it's going next season but like they said...better to go out with a bang then drag it out until it's stale and boring.
and umm bragging about being first on iwatchstuff is kinda silly :P

I'm not so upset about this as I might have been during Season 2, because the tail-end of Season 3 was just incomprehensible rubbish. A lot like 'Lost' except less cohesive and compelling.

I'm actually quite happy they've taken this approach. This way they can shape and end the series exactly as they want without it simply being canceled or wrapped up in a crappy last ditch attempt to finish the story.

I love the show but I would rather it end with an awesome season 4 than to have crappy seasons 5 and 6 and then end with no resolution.

I'm glad they're doing it, but I wish they would have broken the news after the end of season 4. I'm going to be distracted by this all season come 2008. Also, they had better churn out a Caprica TV show before too long.
Between losing SG-1 and BSG, the SciFi channel will be left with Eureka, SG: Atlantis, and those horrible, horrible made for TV movies (the next one will be called "Ice Spiders", so yeah...). That could seriously end the entire network. If they have any hope, it's in simulcasting Heroes next season, stopping the shitty movies, and greenlighting absolutely anything that Ron Moore wants. Shoot, maybe they should throw some money into bringing back Firefly or Farscape.

I agree. I think SciFi is starting to lose it. All of there good stuff is going down the drain and the SciFi movies are not even enough story compelled to ignore the flaws.
I would like to see Firefly come back as well. I never got to see it from the start but saw the movie and am sad at what I missed.
Also on a side note, a small group that makes a mmorpg engine has got the rights to making a firefly mmorpg. I do not remember there website but they were asking what the community wanted so I saw good signs.

I would advise against renting it all at once. It's become a serious problem in my house. We stay up till six am watching it and the other night I actually had to get up and get dressed at two am to go buy the next box set. It's like crack, even if you're just a little bit geeky in the least it will suck you in and you'll be left on the floor in the fetal position wondering when someone is going to bitchslap that one chick with the thing and the guy.

Bren.......will you marry me?
:)

Alas, I am already married. However, if you don't like science fiction and one night you came home drunk and I commanded you to "watch this for a while" with me and then a week later you're demanding I get up and go buy Season 2.5 even though we'd already agreed that on principal we weren't going to buy it because it was retarded for them to split up Season 2 into two expensive boxed sets, you might already be my husband.
