May 31 2007Teen Titans: Another Movie About Comic I've Never Heard Of

Black Guy, Asian Girl, and White Guy: Making the world safe for political correctness

If you write a script that's really good but no one will buy it, your best bet is to hire an artist and make it into a comic book. Comic books make Hollywood execs cream their shorts (if, of course, they wore shorts, which they don't because that would be unprofessional). Case in point, Teen Titans, which will be adapted by Warner Bros.

If your first response was, "What the f*** is Teen Titans?", well then you're only a pair of rippling biceps and a heart of gold away from being just like me.

The Teen Titans first appeared in 1964 as a sort of junior Justice League, comprising Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Speedy, the respective sidekicks of A-list heroes Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow.

Oh great, so it's the Tom & Jerry Kids of the comic world? God I hated that cartoon.

The comic series reached X-Men-style success in the 1980s, when the team was relaunched in a new comic with the characters no longer kids but college-age adults and the stories explored more mature themes. The series also saw the addition of Cyborg, Starfire and Raven, original characters who weren't sidekicks, while the character of Robin matured into one called Nightwing.

There you have it, nerds, I'd never heard about this before - prepare to flame! Knives out!

Aqua...lad?

teen titans was also adapted into a cartoon on cartoon network

I would consider it mildly successful but it has been there for a few years now

Never heard of the Teen Titans? I find it harder and harder to believe that the author/s of this site actually...you know..."watch stuff." And that's not a flame, either, it's just not what I would expect from a blog that covers every superhero movie adaptation to come down the pipe. Hire some younger writers, people, or at least ones who have an all-consuming love for the given subject matter, since your readers certainly do.

I read some of the Teen Titans comics(newer ones not the old ones), and I actually kind of liked the cartoon series. I just want to know how they would do it. Live action would just be totally ridiculous, but animation would probably alienate fans of the comic who saw the series as too "anime-ish".

No No No ... your sooo wrong here. The Teen Titans are amazing. First of all, the cartoon is great, really, really great, but the comic series are outstanding. They play very heavily into the big players at DC Comics. Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Flash, all very involved in the Teen Titans. Go read the graphic novels, voumes 1-6. This is great stuff, features Nightwing, the original Robin, who is like the Spider man of the DC world.

Trust me, this is great stuff, very dark, very edgy, very cool. I can't believe they are making this movie, I wonder if it will ever be made. Your playing it up from the nerdy early 80's stories and images. Were talking about Superboy? Infiniste Crisis? Cloned Superboy from Lex Luthor and Superman?

I find it hard to belive you have never heard of the Teen Titans! You can not be that stupid.

Meh, I'd rather see a movie based on DC's Outsiders.

My son and I watch Teen Titans regularly and it's a great show. It used to come on every weekday but I haven't been able to catch it lately. I think it's down to once a week.

anywho...great show...hopefully an equally entertaining movie.

dude Teen Titans rock, you obviously do not read comics or watch cartoons.

I wonder who will be playing Gay Hulk in the movie.

You post on a movie news website and you call other people nerds?

That's like Green Lantern calling the Hulk green........

Hard to believe that you haven't heard of Teen Titans when there's a popular wannabe anime out for about 4 or 5 years. I mean, I walk around any super market, I see action figures in the toy section (I like action figures), I see dvds in the dvd section (who doesn't go into the dvd section of a store), I even see fruit snacks, cereals and popsicles with Teen Titans on them. I don't watch the show and I don't see how a person who reports news on super hero movies has never heard of the show.

I don't know if you get it in the states, but Cartoon Network Latin America has a filler of Puffy Ami and Yumi doing "Go Teen Titans!" that is pretty good in an absolutely pathetic kind of way.

Er.... CN's Teen Titans is ok. My son watched it first and then I got hooked. Really never heard of them before?

"That's like Green Lantern calling the Hulk green........"

LOL

I agree with comment #3. To not have heard of Teen Titans with the successful cartoon show being talked about for the last few years, it's getting harder to believe that the author of this site actually watches anything.

I will only watch this film if Nightwing is as big a man whore in it as he is in the comics.
