May 21 2007New Rambo Clip Confirms Copout

"I installed my own pacemaker with this knife."
In the original Rambo, Sly returns to Vietnam in the 80s, wins the war and proves the connection between the Soviets and the Vietcong. Being that this is the 21st century, it follows naturally that the present-day Rambo should go to Iraq, win the war on terror, and prove the connection between Iraq and 9/11. With a bow and arrow. Because his mother was Indian, remember?
But in this clip it's clear that he goes to Burma instead. Weak. They already tried that in Beyond Rangoon, and Aung San Suu Kyi's still in jail.
Anyway, he does behead a guy and rip out another guy's larynx, which is kind of sweet.

This being a complete joke aside, I truthfully am kinda excited about seeing this. Damn, you know that trailer won't be playing on TV, it's pretty gory. Looks like it's gonna be more gory than First Blood.

I'm glad its not shying away from its roots like some movies *cough*Die Hard*cough*.. But did Stallone look at the finished product and really think this wouldn't be the butt of many, many jokes.

I can almost forgive the mullet because of that larynx-ripping and shooting men to pieces. Almost.

I know that, but honestly, who really gives a shit about Rambo III? It's really only the first and second one that are interesting on a sociological level.

Even though it was the worst of the bunch (really, in terms of plot and not just action, only First Blood is well-done), I wish they would return to Rambo III. Just the thought of him going back to Afghanistan and meeting up with his old Mujahedeen allies has so many possibilities, especially if some of them later became involved with that splinter group that came to power in 96, the Taliban. They could actually return to social commentary of the first movie, or just continue to be campy action goodness.

No way, I'm SO GLAD they dumped the Iraq/Taliban or whatever 9/11 bullshit themes they may have been tossing around. It'll be a bit cheesy regardless, but that would've been so far beyond cheesy that it would've been hard to stomach.
