May 14 2007Draining Broken Lizard: "Super Troopers 2"

Office-eeeerrr, you act like an animal you're out of control...
In a recent interview, Broken Lizard's Paul Soter admitted that the troupe* was planning a sequel to Super Troopers.
”The more we thought about it we said we should do it,” says Soter. “They are great characters and we still have a lot of material left over.”
Let's hope to God they get Brian Cox back. Brian Cox eats scrap metal and shits razor blades.
Even though their last two movies kinda blew, and let's be honest here, even Super Troopers sort of shot its wad in the opening scene, you still have to respect the fact that these guys pretty much decided, "Hey, now that we're famous we can just write a bunch of stuff where we get to drink beer and touch breasts." Good on ya, boys.
*I hate this word. It's like saying that if you're a comedian, you have to be some sort of Kids in the Hall Nancy boy type. That's why when I do improv, I do it with a comedy horde, or a comedy platoon. That's right, ladies, don't let the nylons fool you, I'm all man.

Broken Lizzard sucks, the only reason they're famous is because some people were able to get stoned enough to pretend Supertroopers was Reno 911, those Reno characters are some funny cops!

I'm pretty sure Super Troopers came out BEFORE Reno 911.

troopers did come out before reno911. and it's awesome. i agree that club dread wasn't great, and beerfest sucked nut, but supertroopers is enough to get me to see anything the BL guys do (dukes of hazzard doesn't count).

I for one think that Broken Lizard had lost it's way after ST. the same as Ben Stiller or Eddie Murphy. When was the last time Ben Stiller made you laugh? re-runs of his old tv show prolly. Super Troopers worked on a lot of levels because it seemed to be a story about highway cops butting heads with local cops and some murder story mixed in. only with ridiculous characters playing the cops, you wouldn't take it seriously. then Brian Cox says, "i just got off the phone with Tom McCartle from the budget committee, This thing with Farva really screwed our pooch...." it seems that despite the highjinks that the boys were having, There was really something at stake here. We were all invested. So the movie, at least most of it, held us and paid off in the end with that Frat party bust thing. Club Dread was a throwback to the horror movies of the late 70's early '80's, with a Scream twist, when kids were killed by some maniac just to show kids having sex with their clothes off. but i never got into seeing Farva as the hero and Jay as some bumbling whatever he was. plus i never really knew who was a counselor and who wasn't. never had that trouble with Meatballs. And i wasn't going to watch this movie again. What the fuck? then Beerfest? drinking beer is not funny. making fun of Germans, while acceptable as apparently we'll NEVER forget Hitler, is not F-U-N-N-Y. i was disappointed. i knew that Jay wanted to do new stuff as he directed Dukes of Hazzard, which sucked, but Jessica Simpson must've been fun to watch in that outfit, but they seemed to want to put some distance between themselves and a structured movie with a plot in favor of dallying in movie projects where they could get laid, or make fart/pussy/murder/ Germans are rigid jokes, and i was just pissed. I started to hate ME for liking Super Troopers so much that i even thought the word Sequel. Theses guys should all be on the same page. we discovered them together, and movies that put them separately coming to an island or foreign country to compete, then they meet each other, takes up too much time, much like this entry, if they already know each other and trust each other, like a bunch of highway cops, we'll trust and like them too. Saves time.
SUPER TROOPERS 2 AND 3!!!!!
