May 12 2007Al Capwn: Nic Cage is Gangsta, Yo

See that guy on the computer in his underwear? I'm tired of him making fun of my movies.
For anyone who was wondering when we'd finally see the petulant, neurotic side of Al Capone, you're in luck. Capone will be played by none other than Nic Cage in Brian De Palma's upcoming Untouchables prequel, Capone Rising.
Cage will play a younger version of Al Capone, the character made famous by Robert De Niro. [the film] will revolve around the early dealings between Capone and Irish cop Jimmy Malone, a role that garnered an Oscar for Sean Connery.Connery got the Oscar win for his brave portrayal of an Irish cop with a Scottish brogue. You have to respect an actor who refuses to learn his character's vernacular (Richard Gere in First Knight, anyone?).
You know what? I'll say it: I've never been that impressed with anything Brian De Palma's done, and I'm sort of confused as to why people talk about him like he's Hitchcock. The first movie of his that comes to mind when I try to think of stuff he's done that I've liked is The Fury, and that didn't really get good until peoples' heads started exploding.
So there you have it, De Palma. Please make Nic Cage's head explode.
De Palma remix from YouTube, after the jump.

Heya, I can't stand De Palma. The man's a glorified hack. However... I haven't seen The Fury but exploding heads make me think of Scanners--sure you're not confused? Scanners is done by the Canadian De Palma, David Cronenberg.

Thank you. De Palma blows. Carrie was okay and so is Phantom of the Paradise but holy smokes that was thirty years ago. He is terrible. I've been dragged to many a Depalma movie and always walk away bored or worse, angry (Snake Eyes - what was that crap?).

Not scanners. You can see a short clip of one of the people exploding in The Fury in that YouTube clip.

Mission Impossible was only good compared to the other movies which came out in '96, which were all terrible (Independence Day, anyone?) Meanwhile, Snake Eyes is the third worst movie I've ever seen. Those are the two hours of my life that I want back the most, no joke.

Um, Scarface & Carlito's Way anyone?

Scarface and Carlito's Way are decent, but you can't just stick Pacino in front of the camera and walk away and call yourself an auteur.

Scarface and Carlito's Way decent? They're classics. De Palma has done some terrible work, but Pacino has been in some bad movies too. De Palma crafted two great movies with these.
