Mar 22 2007Wonder Woman Cast?

wonder-woman-cobie.jpg

According to Film Ick, the coveted role of Wonder Woman may have been given to Cobie Smulders. If she has indeed nailed the role, the actress can look forward to rocketing to stardom in the blockbuster picture, falling from that stardom following the critical lambasting of a film based foolishly around an Amazon goddess with a magical lasso and invisible jet, starring in some low-budget horror films that require modest nudity and/or lesbianism, and finishing her career as the perennial star of "take a picture with Wonder Woman," smiling through the stench of fanboys at comic conventions. Congratulations, Cobie!

Cobie? Since when is that a name?

That movie is going to suck, the studio already decided to fire Joss Whedon as the writer/director and he was the only one who had half a chance of making a Wonder Woman movie that doesn't suck.

Actually now I'm hearing reports that Cobie is NOT Wonder Woman, that she was Joss's choice for the role, and now that he's gone she is too.

I love her in How I Met Your Mother, so if she is in the movie and it ruins her career, that's a shame.

This also seems to be a case of casting by looks. She's a dead ringer for Lynda Carter in that picture.

I haven't seen her in anything, but the fact that she lives in Vancouver yet never had a part on Da Vinci's Inquest/City Hall leads me to believe that she's not that great of an actress. Any local with a bit of talent has appeared on at least one, if not both of those shows.

lambman, I second your concern about the movie now that Joss is no longer attached to the project. I think he could have made a great movie, and it's too bad we'll never experience his take on it (unless he starts writing a Wonder Woman comic or something.. which, he may have already done, but I don't pay much attention to comics besides Buffy season 8..)

I don't believe this. Whedon never did have 1 actress that he wanted. He has already stated that he never had anyone for the lead. Cobie's name was a rumor during the time he was still writing his script. The smart ass that he is, in his parting words, just put her name out there.[ Sick Humor]. It's a no brainer, that Whedon was clueless from the start. He was way over his head ,. Joel Silver doesn't have a director, or a script.. If he is the one who picks the lead, then why don't he direct it. The smart thing too do is let the director have some input. After all he'll be working with the actor's.He has the vision. I am sure that he will listen to Silver's recomendations. It's getting pretty obvious,. that this is Silver's fault. It is he who should drop out of this. I would not be shocked, if this film is squashed. I had great hope that when they dropped Whedon and pick up another script, that we would get the movie started. All we are getting, is more casting rumor's.I am sure that Silver does have a list of canadates that he want's. But lets wait until they get a director, and a script before we jump to any speculation.

In the note Joss posted to his fans regarding his involvement with the project ending he specifically said "sorry cobie"

Hey Lambman, What he's saying is that for almost 2 years of being the head script writer, and director, Cobie's was his one and only choice? Give me a break. This was pure and simple, a sarcastic swansong. He had no one in mind. He was so rapped up in making rewrites, he never had his lead.He stonewalled the script as long as he could .Silver had no choice but to let him go. He just never had a back up plan. Silver offered the lead to Cameron Diaz, and she turned him down.Jessica Biel was another Silver favorite. And if you go back aways, Sandra Bullock was his main choice, but she backed out. It is obvious that this is Silver's baby. He and only he will make the finial choice. I am sure that whe they get a director, and script, then we will see some action. Silver does not want to commit to anyone at this time, because this movie might not get made. The Corps at Warner won't be happy about that.
