Robert Altman, R*I*P

Legendary director Robert Altman, whose vast catalog of work includes M*A*S*H, The Player and most-recently A Prairie Home Companion, died Monday. With five Academy Award nominations for best director and a lifetime achievement award, Altman is widely-acknowledged as one of the most influential filmmakers of his time. Though the director revealed earlier this year that he had a heart transplant over a decade prior, it was complications from cancer that killed him. Strangely, to get the off-the-cuff feel he was looking for, his death took 54 takes.
