Aug 2 2006Clooney Visiting Pet Semetary

clooney-semetary.jpgIn a surprising casting event, Bloody Disgusting says George Clooney is in talks to take on a role in the upcoming remake of the Stephen King classic Pet Semetary:

George Clooney, the bad ass mofo from Dusk Till Dawn, will in in talks to play a role in Paramount Pictures' remake of Stephen King's Pet Sematary! What we don't know is how big of a role he has, but he will be in the film, which was written by Dave Kajganich, Mike Werb and Michael Colleary.

This is a big step up in star power compared to the original Pet Semetary, considering some of the previous stars were Fred "Herman Munster" Gwynne, Denise "Tasha Yar from Star Trek: TNG" Crosby, and Dale "Pet Semetary" Midkiff. The only reason I can see that Clooney would be willing to work on this is if he's been collecting so many animal carcasses through neglect that it will be easier to make a movie about it than take care of them.

I remember liking the book, and thinking it'd make a good Cronenberg movie. Who's directing this one?

Clooney kind of looks Herman Munster in this pic.
Anyways, why are they making a remake of this movie? Didn't the original butcher the story enough?

How to Make Money in Hollywood:

Step 1: Hastily write a cheap, easily conceived horror novel under the influence of cocaine and alcohol.

Step 2: Make an even cheaper, more easily conceived film based on said novel that gets rid of any semblance of quality the book MIGHT have had. Cocain and alcohol optional.

Step 3: Wait 20 years after the movie flops and re-make the terrible movie based on the mediocre book. Cast big names in small roles. Re-cast Denise Crosby, only to have her killed by an oil monster halfway into the movie.

Step 4: Profit.

The original didn't age well. This is one of those rare times when a remake may actually be a good idea.
