According to the fabulous Latin gentlemen at Latino Review, the role of the Joker in the sequel to Batman Begins has been offered to the Australian star of Brokeback Mountain, Heath Ledger:

We were first to tell the world that Brandon Routh was going to be the new Superman. Now here we are at it again as we just got word from A VERY TRUSTED SOURCE that the offer last night was officially made to Heath Ledger to star as The Joker in the Batman Begins Sequel!

Funny that he'd be wearing more makeup as a crazed murderer than as a homosexual, eh? Funny if you're a homophobe! Think about it, bigot.

i'm just going to flat out say what we're all thinking: BULLSHIT!

He's got the smile for it and he has the ability to create unique and believable characters.
I admit I was a bit more excited when I heard Paul Bettany was going to play him but then again the only joker we have ever seen is the too comic comic book Joker.

If they plan on keeping the same feeling of realism that they accomplished in the first one I'd have to say Heath is definately a better choice.

And lets face it, the reason Batman is so loved by fans is because of its realistic superhero. And thats why this Batman was so successful.
For example, finally, the batmobile didnt look like a huge twig and berries.

I like Heath a lot, but I can't really see it. I think Paul Bettany would be a much better choice.

Either way, I hope they err on the side of the sadistic cruel Joker who shoots people in the spine, instead of the one who flies on Christmas trees

I think his wife would make a better joker.

AMEN!
Thats why I think Heath would be a better choice if they decide to go with the more realistic joker. I love Paul Bettany but restraint isnt his strong suit when playing flamboyant characters. Heath is much more subtle in his delivery and character development.

I can see Ledger creating a realistic, sadistic and garish Joker.

I see Bettany pulling a closer resemblance to the jack nicholson Joker.

And, personally, I dont want the Joker to be a joke because this Batman isnt a caricature of Batman like all the other movies.
This Batman is the real Batman ;)

Yeah, I think, I just surpassed my own geek-meter....

hey hey now, #3. The Batman: Animated Series Joker is THE Joker. Given, "Christmas With the Joker" isn't the greatest episode, but I don't think there's ever been a more faithful version of the character in the moving media.

Cept for maybe Cesar Romero, who was only faithful because 60s comics were just as ridiculous as the show.

I just surpassed EVERYONE's geek meter.
