Now several years after its fans have either aged into apathy or death, Alvin and the Chipmunks, the characters that created the only defense for my high-pitched adolescent voice and buck-teeth, may be headed to the big screen if creator Ross Bagdasarian has anything to say about it:
With the release this week of the DVD of 1987's feature film, "The Chipmunk Adventure," Bagdasarian and Karman are also at work on a script for a new movie they hope will be ready in time to mark the Chipmunks' 50th birthday.The couple, who continued the legacy after the elder Bagdasarian's death in 1972, say they aren't surprised there is still an audience for the Chipmunks. They strike a chord with siblings, children and parents who may fight "but at the end of the day" find they still love each other, said Karman.
That's so true. My family and I would constantly argue, usually to the point of physical abuse, but come the end of the day, when we popped in that tape of the Alvin and the Chipmunks, it was like none of it ever happened. Besides all the bruises and broken furniture, I mean.

My name is Simon, and after a whole childhood of chipmunk jokes, I though it would be over. No one cares about The Chipmunks anymore except when that damned Christmas song comes around every year (sucks to your hula hoop). But if we give The Chipmunks to another generation of children, then there will be no forseeable end to the chipmunk jokes made at my expense. That's why this movie must be stopped.

I've been singing along with the Chipmunks since I was 5 and that was back in 1969 and I never stopped. I love these guys like they were my own brothers and I am looking forward to seeing their first "live-action" movie. My only personal opinion is why didn't they star Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. as David (the boys' adopted dad)?
When Alvin, Simon and Theodore came to the Los Angeles Zoo to promote their movie, kids went crazy when they got to meet their favorite rodents.
I listen (and sing along with) their new DVD soundtrack and really enjoy it!
Let's make sure these fellows stay around for a long time.
