During a recent interview with Werner Herzog, regarding his documentary Grizzly Man, the director was shot by an air rifle. Here's the God-dammer of it: He kept doing the interview.
"He had a bruise the size of a snooker ball, with a hole in. He just carried on with the interview while bleeding quietly in his boxer shorts."An unrepentant Herzog insisted, "It was not a significant bullet. I am not afraid."
Officially, Werner Herzog is now my front-runner for Bad-Ass Director of the Year, so step-it-up Penny Marshall. I know you have it in you.

Trivia:
Once walked on foot from Munich to Paris to visit an ailing friend, critic Lotte Eisner. The experience is recounted in Herzog's book Of Walking in Ice
Once ate his own shoe after losing a bet to fellow filmmaker Errol Morris. Morris was interested in making a film about a pet cemetery (Gates of Heaven) and Werner believed Morris was not ambitious enough to make the film. This story was the subject of a documentary by Les Blank called Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980).

I still think I could take 'im. Penny Marshall, I'm not so sure about.
