Feb 24 2006Mischa Barton as Supergirl

supermischa.jpgAssuming Superman Returns is as big of a hit as the studios are counting on it being, rumor is they'd like to make a Supergirl spin-off, and The O.C.'s Mischa Barton is the frontrunner for the title role. This casting idea makes sense, because Supergirl is a powerful girl with superhuman strength and abilities, and Mischa Barton is an awkward, gangly, rat-girl. She's the perfect counterpart to Superman, assuming we recast him with David Spade.

i have no complaints to be honest

The reason spiderman, x-men and the new batman movies were such a success is because they actually casted credible actors.
Barton is not anywhere near a credible actor.
I would have much rather seen someone like Evan Rachel Woods or Leelee Sobieski.

This is going to be a joke. The only thing worse would be casting Wonder Woman with someone like Sandra Bullock.

Maybe they can get Paris Hilton after she's done with her Bollywood Mother Theresa movie.

Lets put it this way...if she was just a secondary cahracter in like a Justice League type movie then I would have no beef.

Exactly agony, she just isnt good enough to hold it on her own.
I really hope this gets changed :(
I mean, I have mint issue #1 Supergirl for gods sake!
Very upsetting for fans :(

Is she any less Super than Helen Slater?

Who?

Exactly.

Theres a big difference between casting an unknown in a major role and someone that already comes with character baggage.

Heres the difference and the problem:
I didnt know who the hell Slater was so I believed she could be supergirl. Same with Christopher Reeve.
I know who Barton is and in my opinion she isnt good enough to make me forget her other characters.

Thats the problem, I dont care if they type cast some noname chick to play Supergirl because she will be believable. But if they are going to cast a well known actress that actress better be fucking good enough to make me forget she was in anything else.
Barton isnt.

I suppose im being a little geeky here ;)
But this is nothing compared to how I'll be if someone like Jennifer Love-Hewitt gets cast as Wonder Woman :D

"But this is nothing compared to how I'll be if someone like Jennifer Love-Hewitt gets cast as Wonder Woman"

Now THAT would be a travesty!

Also, the problems with the original Supergirl movie had nothing to do with casting Helen Slater as the lead: the "villain" overacted, the tertiary characters were all annoying, the plot had more holes than a Paris Hilton blow-up doll, and it was the 80's (everything that sucks now looked measurably cooler in the 80's).

In short, everything else in the movie was such utter shit that Helen Slater came out looking pretty good.

lol so true.
Besides all that Reeves was handpicked to train at Juilliard. Slater only had highschool drama under her belt :p

i've said it before and i'll say it again:

even a superhero needs to eat once a year. mischka couldn't possibly be paid enough for a role that demanding.

I'd be a much happier man if Leelee Sobieski was never heard from and especially seen again. She is awful and should be edited out of everything she has ever done.
Evan Rachel who?
You must be a chick or a dude w/ horrible/no taste in women.

either way...please keep opinions on the same plane as your last out of my eyesight.

thanks-

I am a chick Samson and Leelee has recieved Emmy noms for her work. Woods is a winner.
They can act, unlike Barton.

She is beautiful but she is gangly and looks unco-ordinated and wont be able to pull off Supergirl as hardcore fans know her character.

I could give a shit less if you get a hard on from whomever plays Supergirl. Go watch porn if thats what youre looking for, leave the acting to people with talent so fans arent disapointed.

I Hate Her She Just Needs Die I Thought That Last Blood Faux Pas Was really The Begining Of An Ending .... For Shame
