Feb 16 2006Last Stand is Last X-Men?
Fans hoping for another X-Men movie to follow Brett Ratner's The Last Stand will be disappointed by the director's words in a recent interview, where he claims the series has become a trilogy:
Well, it seems to be the last of the series. We wanted to make sure the audiences knew that this was a trilogy. Even though they weren't made together like 'Lord of the Rings,' this is really closure for the X-Men series. ... This is the last stand for sure.
It sounds to me like Ratner's just being cocky. He doesn't really know it will be the last, he just thinks it should be since he feels he finished it off so well. I always think the same thing when I've "finished" with a girl, but that's never the case. She'll invariably tell me, "Finished what? We didn't have sex," and I'll smile back, hoping she'll at least describe what it's like.
I think the article also includes some new pictures in a slideshow, but who can tell anymore?

X-Men isnt that great as far as superhero or action films in general are concerned. It's average at best, the plot is predictable and the acting is usually lame. Who cares if they make another one.

People who like the comics mostly. There are some fringe fanatics who just like the movies, but most people who really appreciate them seem to be into the original text as well. I know that I could give a shit less whether or not they kept making Spidey movies and I refuse to go see Superman Returns (even though Spacey's in it) because I don't like the mythology and never have. I watch the X-Men movies more to see how they interpreted the comics and who they decided to include (even in cameos) than for the acting, direction, or production values.
Eh, it's all opinion though. I found the second film to be quite good.

If the third X-Men makes good money, there'll be more. It's not like there's a dearth of material to draw stories from.
Even if Ratner's version is crappy, there'll probably be more. People thought the Batman franchise would die after Joel Schumacher turned it into "Gotham On Ice," but they managed to rise above that with "Batman Begins," in my opinion.

#1 what the heck are you talking about? Superhero movies are known for being terrible. Not counting Blade, X-Men was the first superhero movie that was actually fairly good.
